Louxor ou Louqsor, en arabe الأقصر, Al Uqsur, est une ville située sur la rive droite du Nil, en Haute-Egypte, située à environ 700 km au sud du Caire et à environ 300 km au nord d'Assouan. Selon le recensement de 2006, c'est à présent une ville de 429 000 habitants — qui tous, vivent directement ou indirectement du tourisme —, ce qui la place au neuvième rang des villes égyptiennes.

 

Il s'agit de l'antique cité égyptienne de Thèbes.

 

Le site de Louxor, avec plus de quatre millions de visiteurs par an, est l'un des endroits les plus touristiques de l'Égypte et constitue la partie sud de l'ancienne Thèbes. Son temple, relié à celui de Karnak par un dromos, longue allée bordée de sphinx, fut érigé au IV eme siècle av. J.-C. sous le règne d'AMENHOTEP III. Il fut modifié par la suite par Toutankhamon qui y ajouta la grande colonnade et des statues de sa Rien et lui meme puis par Ramses II, qui y ajouta notamment six statues monumentales et deux obélisques, dont l'un, offert à la France en 1831, orne depuis la place de la Concorde à Paris.

Louxor fait partie du gouvernorat de Louxor . La ville est située sur la rive droite du Nil à 165 km à l'est de la Mer Rouge , 700 km au sud du Caire et à environ 300 km au nord d'Assouan.

 

Les eaux du Nil forment une zone fertile d'environ 10km en largeur terminée à l'Est du fleuve par le désert Arabique et à l'Ouest par le désert Lybique. En revanche, au nord de la ville le désert Libyque s'étend presque jusqu'aux rives du Nil.

According to the 2006 census, it is now a city of 429,000 inhabitants - all of whom live directly or indirectly through tourism - making it the ninth largest city in Egypt.This is the ancien city of Theba.The Luxor site, with more than four million visitors a year, is one of the most touristic places in Egypt and is the southern part of ancient Thebes. Its temple, connected to that of Karnak by a dromos, long alley lined with sphinx, was erected in the IV century BC. BC under the reign of AMENHOTEP III. It was later modified by Toutenkhamon who added the large colonnade and statues of his Nothing and himself and then by Ramses II, who added six statues and two monumental obelisks, including one, offered to France in 1831 , adorns from the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Luxor is part of the governorate of Luxor. The city is located on the right bank of the Nile, 165 km east of the Red Sea, 700 km south of Cairo and about 300 km north of Aswan.

The waters of the Nile form a fertile area of about 10km in width terminated east of the river by the Arabian desert and to the west by the Lybic desert. On the other hand, to the north of the city the Libyan desert extends almost to the banks of the Nile.
